Human-molluscan entanglements...
Molluscs have shaped human relations and societies for centuries. Among the most famous and ancient sites for pearl and chank/conch fisheries was the Gulf of Mannar, India. Today, natural pearl fisheries in this region are a thing of the past, but fishers still bring us the sacred conch using a range of skills and technologies. I've researched these molluscan fisheries and followed contemporary chank diving, regulation and emerging concerns among diving communities. Molluscs periodically worsen some of my obsessions ...
